ABOUT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES:
Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation and support for families with children in hospital. There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, all just moments away from their respective children's wards, with plans for further developments well under-way. As an independent charity, we rely on the support and generosity of our volunteers, fundraisers and donors, and thanks to their tireless efforts the Houses helped over 8,000 families in 2018.
It is our mission to ensure every specialist children’s hospital in the UK has free, homely and supportive accommodation for families. This will allow us to help thousands more families stay together, while their child is in hospital, in the years to come.
MORE THAN A PLACE TO STAY
When a child is in hospital their family can often be faced with having to travel long distances each day and either pay for costly hotel rooms or sleep on a chair at their bedside. Our Houses provide families with a comfortable place to stay that's close to their child, giving them more time and energy to focus on being together.
Accommodation is provided free of charge and for as long as families need it, sparing them some of the financial issues that can arise during a prolonged hospital stay.
A Ronald McDonald House is much more than a place to stay. Our Houses are fitted with everything a family could need to make themselves feel at home. Though it may sound mundane, the provision of facilities such as a laundry room and a kitchen are precisely what allow families to maintain some degree of normality. Our staff are also always on hand to offer support when needed, such as a listening ear or a chat over a cup of tea.
